Manuel Mendive

Manuel Mendive (Cuban, Born 1944) is the leading exponent of contemporary Afro-cubanismo in the visual arts. He graduated from the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts San Alejandro in Havana in 1962 with honours in sculpture and painting. His work can be found in Museums and galleries in many countries including the National Museum of Fines Arts in Havana, the Musee d’Art Moderne in Paris; Modern Arts Museum of Cartagenas of the Indies, as well as museums in Russia, Somalia, Congo, Norway, Denmark, Finland and the U.S.

Mendive does not follow trends slavishly when he paints he stimulates the senses through thought, touch, colour, and the natural elements.
